Biography

Born and raised in the Netherlands, Catch The Sparrow (singer-songwriter Suze Terwisscha van Scheltinga) initially studied to be a jazz vocalist before her love for folk music brought her to the North East of England. She quickly became a fixture on the Newcastle folk scene, performing extensively throughout the region before relocating to London in 2024.

With the release of her first EP ‘Winter Flowers’ (2022) she established herself as a charismatic performer and masterful songwriter. She released follow up album 'No Sweeter Sorrow', arranged and performed in collaboration with fiddle player and singer Sam Baxter, on 2 May 2025 with a sold out concert at The Cumberland Arms in Newcastle.

This year she created a new piece called 'When The Lost God Speaks', commissioned by the National Trust. The piece could be heard in the Saloon of Seaton Delaval Hall, a Grade I listed country house in Northumberland, from 16 to 31 August 2025.

Since 2025, Suze has been a part of Lowground, a new collective with folk musicians Sam Baxter, Janice Burns, Holly Clarke, Jon Doran and Anna Hughes. Their EP 'The Otherworld' was released on 31 October 2025 as a Hudson Club exclusive.
